On not giving up

A concert pianist didn’t get to fill up halls with paying concert goers just after a year of practising pieces…

An olympian didn’t win medals just after two months of trying to improve on things they read in a book…

An excellent orator didn’t master the craft of persuasion just after three days of honing his skills in front of a mirror…

The master at anything was once a student who persisted, who was constantly hungry for more and didn’t listen to the limitations of their mind; till they got somewhere over time, which we now celebrate.

You will always have a reason to give up.

There will always be someone far better than you.

There will always be days where you are not making any progress whatsoever.

Your body will sometimes not catchup with your mind.

You might eventually burn out and get tired of making mistakes.

Your willpower might run out and you might not see yourself gaining any further grounds beyond how far you’ve come.

It’s okay but note this…

Many others, across the world, like you have been there and eventually made sense of it. Be like them!

Don’t give in to the temptation to fall back and relax. Don’t give your mind the ability and permission to stop you. Don’t consider how far you still have to go so much so that you forget how far you have come.

For a change, be not afraid to fail. Laugh at your own mistakes. Celebrate your baby steps like it’s the final consolation prize. Wake up one more day, ready to improve on yesterday and without the hurry to arrive at the tomorrow that your spirit, soul and body cannot yet handle today.

Pain is real but the gains are realer when you run into them. Frustration is tangible but gratification is palpable in the air when it comes. Fear is real but joy is far more enjoyable when you find it. Failure is finite and certain but success remains infinite and uncertain. Perfection may be a myth but getting close enough to it is so satisfying.

Relax your nerves! You are doing the best you can.

Discouragement is valid as long as you allow it to live rent free in your soul. So, don’t give into it. Don’t give up on yourself, your dreams, your aspirations, your joy, your peace, your rewards and your future.

With each sunrise you have another opportunity to see, fail again till you don’t know how to fail anymore.

Stay on the path!
